Understanding SMETA

What does SMETA cover?

SMETA is Sedex's social audit methodology. A two-pillar audit covers labour standards and health and safety, with a basic environmental assessment. A four-pillar audit also includes a more detailed environmental assessment and business ethics. Confirm the scope with your buyer and audit provider.

Our role is consultancy, implementation and training. SMETA audits are conducted independently through Sedex Affiliate Audit Companies; preparation does not guarantee an audit outcome.
